Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home Mr. Woodrow Strawn age 89, of Pulaski passed away Friday, September 7, 2007 at NHC Healthcare in Pulaski. Mr. Strawn was born January 10, 1918 in Giles County where he graduated from Campsbellsville High School in 1936. He joined the U.S. Navy, October 15, 1940. He completed basic training in Norfolk, Virginia, and served aboard the USS Hayter, a destroyer escort in the North Atlantic during World War II. He married Mary Ellen Reed on December 23,1942 and they had one son, Woodrow Wilson Strawn, Jr. He was elected Giles County Trustee 1948-1952. Mr. Strawn was a Mason and member of Pulaski Lodge No. 101 F&Am, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, member of the Al Menah Temple, and a member of First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion and the VFW. He entered the insurance firm of Martin and Strawn, and later joined with lifelong friend, Tol Eslick to establish Eslilck & Strawn Insurance. He was preceded in death by his, Wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen Reed Strawn Son, Woodrow Wilson Strawn, Jr. Parents, Andrew Jackson and Jessie Follis Strawn He was survived by sister-in-law, Mrs. S.C. "Ginger" Reed- Winchester, Tn ,several nieces and nephews, Margaret Strawn Morring- Huntsville, Al, Marilyn Brown Gilley- Gallatin, Tn, Delane Brown Vester- Lafayette, Tn, Trena Reed Brown- Nashville, Tn, James H. Reed- San Diego, Ca, Dennis Reed-Estill Springs, Tn, Jan Reed Fishbeck- Atlanta, Ga, and Brian Reed- Murfreesboro, Tn. Mr. Strawn was "Grandpa " to his great-nieces Mary Katherine "Katie" Morring and Molly Frances Morring- Huntsville,Al Visitation was Saturday, September 8th from_4:00until 6:30pm, with a Masonic Service following at6:30pm at Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home. Funeral Service was Sunday, September 9th at 3:00pm at the First Presbyterian Church with Pat Whittmore officiating. Burial followed in Giles Memory Gardens. The family suggests memorial donations be made to, Shriners Children Hospital, P.O. Box 170, Pulaski, Tn. 38478 or First Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund.
